Parallax microsite

For the Royal Ontario Museum’s CHIHULY exhibition, the web team recommended a microsite using parallax—and they did a great job creating it.. My challenge with this format was to keep copy to a minimum: “don’t just tell them, show them” was clearly the way to go in this case. Fortunately, I had some great quotes from the artist that were a perfect complement to the images.

“Fresh” Digital Flowers

Web design has come a long way since this microsite, but it did the trick in its day - it brought lots of people into the Royal Ontario Museum’s David Hockney exhibition. I worked with a web designer to decide on the layout and content, and they implemented it.

When You Don’t Have Good Photos

For the Bata Shoe Museum, I redesigned their website*, including re-thinking the functionality and navigation, writing much of the copy, sourcing images, implementing and testing. I also set up a Google Analytics account (a first for the organization) to better understand activity on the site.

Most visitors visit with a friend or with family, and I wanted the site to reflect this social aspect. However, suitable images were hard to come by. For this reason I added the two small characters in the top menu bar. They’re talking animatedly in their fancy shoes, and I hope they convey the idea that the Museum experience connects you not just with footwear but also with people.

*I started from a homepage and look and feel created by a web design firm. This iteration of the website is no longer live.
